Internet Mail Does Not Download E-mail Messages Using MSN

  • Microsoft Internet Mail and News version 1.0 for Windows 95

SYMPTOMS

When you are using MSN, The Microsoft Network, you may not receive e-mail messages using Microsoft Internet Mail and News.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if the MSN mail server has received an e-mail message with a MIME (Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions) header and an ASCII (text) body.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods:

Use the updated version of Internet Mail

To download the updated version of Internet Mail, connect to the following Microsoft Web site:

   http://fdl.msn.com/public/setup/components/mailnews.exe

NOTE: While you are installing this version of Internet Mail, you may receive the following message regarding the file Wldap32.dll:

   Version Conflict. A file being copied is older than the one currently
   on your computer. Do you want to keep the existing file?

If you receive this message, click Yes to keep the existing file.

After you have completed the installation, restart the computer when you are prompted to, and then connect to MSN to receive your e-mail.

Use Microsoft Outlook Express

To use Outlook Express, download Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0. To download Internet Explorer 4.0, connect to the following Microsoft Web site:

   http://www.microsoft.com/ie/download

Use Microsoft Outlook 97

To use Outlook 97 with MSN, install the Internet Mail Enhancement Patch. For information about installing the Internet Mail Enhancement Patch, see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
