SYMPTOMS

When you type a new record in a Microsoft Access table, query, or form, you do not see the new record in the recordset. This may happen if the following conditions are true:

  • You have a table, query, or form that contains more than 255 records.
  • You delete a record, and then insert a record into that same table, query, or form.
  • You press the TAB key or an ARROW key when you have finished typing to move off the record.

NOTE: This same behavior occurs when you press the ENTER key and you have selected the Move After Enter option on the Keyboard tab of the Options dialog box on the Tools menu.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the recordset is not refreshed when you enter the record.

RESOLUTION

In a table or query, to be able to see the newly created record, close and then reopen the table or query.

In a form, on the Records menu, click Sort. You may choose Ascending or Descending.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Access 7.0 and 97.

  3. Open the Order Details table in Datasheet view.
  4. Place your pointer anywhere in the first record, and then on the Edit menu, click Delete Record.

  7. Press the UP or DOWN ARROW key. Note that the new record does not appear in the list of records.
