SYMPTOMS

In Money 98, you may receive the following error message when you try to download an Internet Update:

Invalid Page Fault in Kernel 32.dll

This can also occur when you make other Internet connections in Money.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if you do not use the latest version of the Rpawinet.dll file. This file is installed by CompuServe WinCIM and used for passthrough authentication. Versions 2.6 and earlier of the Rpawinet.dll file have been known to cause this error.

RESOLUTION

If you have the Rpawinet.dll file on your computer, rename the file, restart Windows, and then try to download an Internet Update again in Money.

If the problem is resolved, contact CompuServe to obtain the latest version of the Rpawinet.dll file.

NOTE: Microsoft has not tested this file and therefore cannot guarantee its results.

To determine the version of the Rpawinet.dll file, follow these steps:

  1. Quit Money.
  2. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files Or Folders.
  3. In the Look In box, click the drive where you installed Microsoft Windows. This is usually the C drive.
  4. In the Named box, type “rpawinet.dll” (without the quotation marks), and then click Find Now.
  5. In the list of found files, right-click the Rpawinet.dll file, and then click Properties.
  6. On the Version tab, note the file version.
  7. Click Cancel, but do not close Find.

If the version is earlier than 2.7, rename the file using the following steps:

  1. In the list of found files, right-click the Rpawinet.dll file, and then click Rename.

  2. Press the RIGHT ARROW key on your keyboard.

  3. Type “.old” (without the quotation marks), and then press ENTER.

    This should rename the file to Rpawinet.dll.old.

  4. Close Find Files.

Open Money and attempt the Update Internet call again. If you use CompuServe as your Internet Service Provider, you may wish to contact them to obtain the latest version of this file.
