SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Project 98, the Task Usage and Resource Usage views may show incorrect Work and Actual Work values for some tasks and resources when the task is in progress.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs when the following conditions occur:
- You are using a resource pool and the start date of the resource pool is later than one or more of the project files sharing the pool. This causes Microsoft Project to calculate task usage and resource usage incorrectly for a task that is in progress.

- You created a new default calendar exception for a day of the week for a resource or base calendar. For example, you made Monday a nonworking day. For a past date on which actual work was done, the working time will be incorrect.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, change the project start date for the resource pool so that it is the same as the project's sharing pool. To do this, follow these steps:
- On the Tools menu, click Change Working Time.
- In the For list, select the calendar you modified.
- Click the day title you changed previously.
- Under For Selected Dates, click Use Default, and then click OK.
- On the Window menu, click the resource pool.
- On the Project menu, click Project Information.
- In the Start Date box, enter the start date of the earliest project.
- Click OK.
- Re-enter the calendar exception.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.
This problem was corrected in Microsoft Project 98 for Windows, Service Release 1 (SR-1).

When you make a calendar exception for a day of the week, you change the default working time for that day. Microsoft Project will then determine if a new default should be used for the day, by using the following criteria:
- Any date that has a previous calendar exception will not use the new setting.
- If the date falls between the project Start Date and Status Date, the new setting will not be used. If the Status Date is NA, Microsoft Project will use the current date.
- For all other dates the new setting will be applied.
