SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to sign in to the MSN Gaming Zone, you may receive the following error message:

Failed to start ZoneClient.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if any of the following conditions are true:

  • Files in your Temporary Internet Files folder point to outdated MSN Gaming Zone pages.
  • The ZoneClient file is damaged.
  • The Heartbeat ActiveX control is damaged.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the following methods in the order in which they are presented.

Ensure That You Are Using the Latest MSN Gaming Zone Web Pages

To ensure that you are using the latest MSN Gaming Zone Web pages, empty the Temporary Internet Files folder on your computer.

Remove the ZoneClient File

Remove the ZoneClient file from your system to allow the MSN Gaming Zone to automatically install and register a new copy. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files Or Folders.

  2. In the Named box, type “zone.exe” (without the quotation marks).

  3. In the Look In box, click My Computer, and then click Find Now.

  4. In the list of found files, right-click the Zone.exe file, and then click Delete. By default, the Zone.exe file is located in the following folder:

    C:FilesInternet Gaming Zone

  5. To install the ZoneClient file automatically, connect to the MSN Gaming Zone.

Remove the Heartbeat ActiveX Control from Your Computer
