SUMMARY

This article describes how to link a Microsoft Money 98 investment account with MSN Investor.

A Money investment account is initially linked to Investor by creating a New Account in Portfolio Manager.

You can link only Money 98 or 99 to an Investor portfolio. Earlier versions of Money, have the option to import information into Investor.

If you use Money 98 or 99, you can link investment records so they match and you need only to enter the data once.

Creating a Money-Linked Account

  1. In Portfolio Manager, click New Account on the File menu.

  2. In the New Account wizard, click “Imported Portfolio: Import data from Microsoft Money, Quicken, or Web-based portfolios,” and then click Next.

  3. Click “Imported from Microsoft Money: Import data directly from your Microsoft Money file,” and then click Next.

  4. Click “Link: Data is connected?,” and then click Next.

  5. In the File Name box, type the location of the Money file you want to link. If you do not know where the file is, click Browse, click the folder that contains your .mny files, and then click Open.

  6. Click to select the accounts you want to link.

    NOTE: If your Money file has a password, you need to type it to continue.

  7. Click Next, and then click Finish.

All changes you make in your Money file, are immediately reflected in the linked accounts in Portfolio Manager. Linked accounts in Portfolio Manager cannot be changed in Investor.

All linked accounts appear in the Investor Portfolio Manager with a Money icon next to the account name.

Updating or Editing an Investment in a Money-Linked Account

  1. In the Portfolio Manager, right-click the investment you want to update and then click Investment Details on the shortcut menu.
  2. Click the Transactions tab and click Launch Microsoft Money.
  3. Enter your changes in Money. The changes will then automatically be reflected in the Investor Portfolio Manager.

Creating an Investor Account from Investment Data in Money versions 4, 5

  1. On the File menu, click New Account in Portfolio Manager.

  2. In the New Account wizard, click “Imported Portfolio: Import data from Microsoft Money, Quicken, or Web-based portfolios,” and then click Next.

  3. Click “Imported from Microsoft Money: Import data directly from your Microsoft Money file,” and then click Next.

  4. Click “Import: Data is read once?,” and then click Next.

  5. In the File Name box, type the location of the Money file you want to link. If you do not know where the file is, click Browse, click the folder that contains your .mny files, and then click Open.

  6. Click to select the accounts you want to link.

    NOTE: If your Money file has a password, you need to type it to continue.

  7. Click Next, and then click Finish.

    NOTE: When you import data with this method, the data is static and is not updated when you edit or modify your Money file.
