This article provides instructions on how to set up bank accounts and enable them for Home Banking in Microsoft Money.

These instructions assume you have Money installed on your computer. Before you start, you should have your bank account numbers available.

Setting Up Online Services

To set up the accounts, follow these steps:

  1. On the Money Home page, click Accounts on the navigation bar.

  2. Click New Account to start the New Account Wizard.

  3. Type the bank name and click Next.

  4. Click to select the type of account you want to set up and click Next. Continue through the wizard.

  5. When you get to the screen asking for your account number enter it in the following format and click Next.

    Savings account Checking account Credit card account XXXXXX-xx XXXXXX-xx XXXXXX-xx

    XXXXXX is the account number and -xx is the suffix used to identify the type of account. You must enter the complete account number and suffix. Suffixes are generally used by credit unions to differentiate accounts.

    When setting up just a credit card account for example, American Express, Discover, Novus and such, enter the entire credit card number without dashes for the account number.

  6. Continue through the wizard.

  7. If you have other accounts that you would like to set up, click “I have other accounts at this institution” and click Next. Repeat steps 4 to 7 with the information for each of the accounts.

  8. If you do not have more accounts, click “I have no other accounts at this institution,” click Next and then click Finish.

  9. Click to select your newly created account in Account Manager, and click Go To Bank.

  10. Click Investigate Offerings to start the Online Services Setup Wizard.

  11. If you are going to use a Setup file provided by your financial institution click to select it, otherwise click Next.

NOTE: If you are using a Setup file click to select it and click Next, then follow the wizard.

  1. Enter the name of your financial institution and click Next.

  2. Money searches the Branding Directory Server for information on your bank and displays the results. Click to select the correct bank from the list and click Next. If your bank is not on the list, or if you are not sure click, “One of the financial institutions in the list may be mine but I am not sure which to select” and click Next.

  3. Enter your Financial Institution Identification number if asked, and click Next. Money will try again to find your financial institution on the Branding Directory Server. Click to select the correct bank from the list and click Next. If your bank is not found, follow the Setup Wizard to see what options are available

At the conclusion of Step 2, Investigate Offerings, Money activates steps 3- 5 in the Getting Started Area. If Money determines that you have two different providers for statements and bill payment, Money displays two sets of remaining steps. This would most commonly occur if your financial institution provides statements but not bill payment. In this case, Money also includes the choice of stand-alone bill payment services as well as the financial institution’s Online Statements.

Setting Up Online Statements

These instructions assume:

  • You have Money installed
  • You have set up your checking account for Online Statement
  • You have completed Step 2 above (Investigate Offerings)

Before you start, you should have your account numbers available.

  1. Click Accounts on the Navigation bar.
  2. Click to select the Checking account you want to setup for Online Statement. Click Go To Bank.
  3. Click to select step 3, Review Service Details, under the branch for your financial institution. Click Finish when completed.
  4. Click to select step 4, Read Signup Info, under the branch for your financial institution. Click Finish when completed.
  5. Click to select step 5, Set Up Online Statements, under the branch for your financial institution. This will start the Online Statements Setup Wizard.
  6. Step through the wizard filling out the appropriate information to set up all the Online Accounts that you have with this institution. You will need the enrollment information provided by your financial institution.
  7. Click Finish when you have finished setting up all accounts with this financial institution.

Setting Up Online Bill Payment

These instructions assume:

  • You have Money installed on your computer
  • You have setup the checking account used for Online Bill Payment
  • You have completed Step 2, Investigate Offerings.

Before you start, you should have your account numbers available.

  1. Click Accounts on the Navigation bar.
  2. Click the Checking account you want to set up for Online Bill Payment. Click Go To Bank.
  3. Click to select step 3, Review Service Details, under the branch for Bill Payment Provider.
  4. Step through the wizard filling out the appropriate information. Click Finish when completed.
  5. Click to select step 4, Read Signup Info, under the branch for Bill Payment Provider. Click Finish when completed.
  6. Click to select step 5, Setup Online Billpay, under the branch for your financial institution. This will start the Online Billpay Setup Wizard.
  7. Step through the wizard filling out the appropriate information to set up all the necessary accounts. You will need the enrollment information provided by your financial institution.
  8. Click Finish when you have finished setting up all accounts with this financial institution.

NOTE: The Bill Payment Provider branch will become enabled, when setting up just a credit card account (American Express, Discover, Novus and such) however Online Bill Payment does not work with credit card accounts at this time.

Connecting To Your Financial Institution After Setup

  1. On the Navigation bar, click Online Finances (in Money 99) or Online Banking (in Money 98).
  2. Click the Connect tab and click Connect.
  3. Enter your password and click Connect.
