SUMMARY

Microsoft Money allows you to specify three options for Internet connections.

  • You can connect via a Dial-Up Networking (DUN) connection to your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
  • You can connect via your local area network (LAN) and a proxy.
  • You can make a manual connection to an ISP that supports the Windows 32bit Winsock (Wsock32.dll).

MORE INFORMATION

To specify your Internet connection method, use the appropriate method for your version of Money.

Steps for Money 99

To specify your Internet connection method, follow these steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.

  2. Click the Connection tab.

  3. If your ISP creates a DUN connection or you connect through your local area network, click Connection Settings.

    1. If your ISP creates a DUN connection, click “Connect to the Internet using a modem,” click Settings, and then select the DUN connection from the list.

    2. If you connect through your local area network, click “Connect to the Internet using a local area network,” click to select the “Access the Internet using a proxy server” check box, and then type the appropriate proxy information in the Address and Port boxes.

NOTE: If you have questions about this step, contact your network administrator.

  1. Click OK twice.

  2. If your ISP does not create a DUN connection but supports the Windows 32-bit Winsock, click to select the “Prompt me when an Internet connection is required” check box, and then click OK. NOTE: Use this if your ISP requires you to run their software and sign on before you can access the Internet, for example America Online 3.0 for Windows 95.

Steps for Money 98

To specify your Internet connection method, follow these steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.

  2. On the Online Services tab, click Internet Connection Settings.

  3. Select the correct connection method.

    1. If your ISP creates a DUN connection, click “Have Money connect to the Internet using my Internet service provider from the list below,” and select the DUN connection from the list.

    2. If you connect through your local area network, click “Access the Internet via a local area network option.” Click Connect To A Proxy Server, and then type the appropriate proxy information in the “Address of proxy server to use” and Port boxes.

NOTE: If you have questions about this step, contact your network administrator.

Q174246 Money: Support Boundaries for Internet Access via Proxy

  1. If your ISP does not create a DUN connection but supports the Windows 32-bit Winsock, select the Manual option. Use this if your ISP requires you to run their software and sign on before you can access the Internet, for example, America Online 3.0 for Windows 95.
  1. Click OK twice. Money now connects using the method you specified.

NOTE: Settings in Options take precedence over the settings for your browser on your desktop.

If you use Dial-Up Networking to dial in to your office and then use a proxy, select the Dial-Up Networking connection and select Connect Through A Proxy Server.

America Online 3.0 for Windows 95 is manufactured by America Online, a vendor independent of Microsoft; we make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product’s performance or reliability.
