Article ID: 173958

Article Last Modified on 10/24/2003

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Commercial Internet System 1.0 Service Pack 2
  • Microsoft Internet Information Services Internet Locator Server 1.0

This article was previously published under Q173958

SYMPTOMS

After you install Ipswitch IMail Server, Microsoft Internet Locator Server (ILS) and Microsoft NetMeeting may lose some functionality, including the ability to view users logged on to the ILS server.

CAUSE

This problem is due to the Ipswitch IMail Server replacing the ILS Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) service with its own LDAP service. The LDAP service provided with Ipswitch IMail Server does not provide the same functionality as does the ILS LDAP service.

WORKAROUND

When you use the IMail Server from Ipswitch, install it before you install the Microsoft Internet Locator Server. Then this problem will not occur, because the operating system will use the last LDAP service to be installed.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem with Microsoft Internet Locator Server, included in Microsoft Commercial Internet System version 1.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
IMail Server is manufactured by Ipswitch Inc., a vendor independent of Microsoft; we make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product's performance or reliability.
