Article ID: 173762

Article Last Modified on 1/20/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Project 98 Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q173762

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 98, when you click Update Project in a reply message to a Team Assign message, you receive the following error message:

The resource assignment cannot be updated because the resource "<resource name>" is no longer assigned to "<task name>".

The resource was probably removed from the task before you received the update information you are trying to incorporate, or the task you are trying to update may have been deleted from the project.

CAUSE

This error occurs when you are working in a consolidated file and the inserted project that corresponds to the Team Assign message is collapsed. Microsoft Project cannot update a task that is collapsed.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, expand the project (click the plus sign to the left of the inserted project) before you click Update Project in the Team Assign reply message.

If you received the error message, click Cancel or OK, expand the project, and then click Update Project in the Team Assign reply message.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.
