SYMPTOMS
When you use the French, Dutch, Spanish, or German grammar checkers to automatically check spelling and grammar as you type, you may notice any of the following:
- High central processing unit (CPU) use.
-or-
- Flickering text on your screen.
-or-
- The grammar checker may stop processing and Word may appear to hang.
CAUSE
When Word encounters certain groups of characters, the Grammar Checker does not stop and continues processing the document.
RESOLUTION
To correct this problem, obtain Microsoft Word 97 Service Release 2 (SR-2).
To temporarily work around this problem, turn off Check Grammar As You Type. To do this, follow these steps:
- On the Tools menu, Click Options, and then click the Spelling & Grammar tab.
- Under Grammar click to clear Check Grammar As You Type.
- Click OK.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Word for Windows versions listed above. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 97 Service Release 2 (SR-2).
