Automap: Computer Restarts After Playing Introductory Music

SYMPTOMS

When you start Microsoft Automap Streets Plus or Microsoft Automap Trip Planner, the computer may restart after the introductory music plays.

This occurs if you are using a Diamond Telecommander sound card. The Diamond Telecommander cannot play sounds from Automap Streets Plus or Automap Trip Planner.

RESOLUTION

Turn off sound in Automap Streets Plus or Automap Trip Planner. To do so, use the following steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Multimedia, and then click the Advanced tab.
  3. Double-click Audio Devices, and then double-click Telecommander.
  4. Click “Do not use audio features on this device.”
  5. Click OK, and then click OK again.
  6. Double-click Mixer Devices, and then double-click Telecommander.
  7. Click “Do not use Mixer features on this device.”
  8. Click OK, and then click OK again.
  9. Double-click Line Input Devices, and then double-click Telecommander.
  10. Click “Do not use Line Input features on this device.”
  11. Click OK, and then click OK again. Do not close the Multimedia Properties window.
  12. Start Automap Streets Plus or Automap Trip Planner, and then click View the Map.
  13. On the Options menu, click Streets Plus Options or Trip Planner Options.
  14. Clear the Play Button And Menu Sounds and Play Startup Sound check boxes.
  15. Click OK, and then close Automap Streets Plus or Automap Trip Planner.
  16. Repeat steps 4, 7, and 10 above to restore use of the Telecommander features. For example, when you repeat step 4 above, click “Use audio features on this device.”
  17. Click OK until you return to Windows.
