SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Project 98, if you try to link tasks between projects in a consolidated file, you receive the following error message:
You may also experience one of the following symptoms:
- When you attempt to link tasks between files, the link may be drawn to the task directly below the one you are linking from instead of to the task in the other file.
- In Gantt Chart view, if you double-click the line representing the task link and change the dependency type, you may receive the following error message:
- In Gantt Chart view, if you double-click the line representing the task link and then click Delete, the link will not be deleted.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when you insert a file in a consolidated file that has the same name as another file.
WORKAROUND
To link tasks, use either of the following methods:
- Select the tasks you want to link together and then click Link Tasks on the Edit menu.
-or-
- Select the tasks you want to link together and then click the Link Tasks button on the Standard toolbar.
To change the type of relationship between tasks, follow these steps:
- Double-click the successor task. Or, select the successor task and then click Task Information on the Project menu.
- Click the Predecessors tab.
- In the Type field, select the relationship type you want.
- Click OK.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.
