SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 98, when you use the AutoFilter tool, one or more tasks may not appear in the results list.

This problem occurs if you filter the tasks using a date criterion and the time you specified in the task includes seconds. For example, if you have a task that has the following start time

8/27/97 4:07:12 PM

and you apply a filter using a date format that does not specify seconds, like this

8/27/97 4:07 PM

the task will not appear in the filtered results.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you use filter criterion that does not use seconds and your data is formatted using a date format that specifies seconds. However, Microsoft Project assumes that you want to filter based on seconds when you specify a date format that includes the time even though you did not enter a value for seconds in the filter criterion. Therefore, in the example shown in the "Symptoms" section, the AutoFilter tool is using the following filter:

8/27/97 4:07:00 PM

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use either of the following methods:

Method 1: Use a date format that does not display time

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. Click the View tab.
  3. In the Date Format list, select a date format that does not include time, such as "8/27/97."
  4. Click OK.

Method 2: Re-enter the dates for the tasks

Re-enter the dates for the tasks, but do not specify seconds. Microsoft Project will assume that the time uses by the tasks will be set at zero seconds.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.
