PRJ98: Microsoft Project Takes a Long Time to Save Baseline

Article ID: 173169

Article Last Modified on 1/20/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Project 98 Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q173169

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 98, if you save a baseline it may take a long time and Project appears to stop responding (hang).

CAUSE

Microsoft Project may take a long time to save a baseline because it calculates a large amount of data to set baseline fields. When a baseline is saved, baseline values for all tasks are rolled up to summary tasks and all resource assignment information is rolled up to resource baseline fields. Microsoft Project now includes timescaled data associated with each task and each resource. This timescaled data includes a large amount of information, which causes significantly more calculations than previous versions.

STATUS

This problem was corrected in Microsoft Project 98 for Windows, Service Release 1 (SR-1).
