SYMPTOMS

When you access a file from a File Transfer Portocol (FTP) client such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator, the time stamp may not match the time stamp of the file when you access it directly from the server.

CAUSE

Internet Information Server, Peer Web Server, and Personal Web Server all use Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) as the default time zone for file time stamping. The FTP client reads the actual time stamp in GMT. Files saved and shared using the FTP Server service may not match the current time because of adjustments from GMT or daylight saving time changes.

RESOLUTION

If you require the FTP client to use your local time zone, configure the FTP server computer's time as follows:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Date/Time.
  2. Click the Time Zone tab, and then click Greenwich Mean Time, in the Time Zone box.
  3. Clear the Automatically adjust clock for daylight saving changes check box.
  4. Click the Date/Time tab, and then adjust the time to match the current local time.
  5. Click OK.

NOTE: If the FTP server is attached to a time server and the FTP server is set to GMT and GMT is not local time, the time server tries to change the FTP server's clock. Detach the FTP server from the time server.
