SYMPTOMS

When you paste an assignment in either Task Usage view or Resource Usage view, a new task or a new resource is created. For example, if you paste task information on an existing resource, a new task is added to the resource. If you paste the task over a non-existent task or resource, a new resource will be created with the task information assigned to the new resource.

CAUSE

Pasting an assignment after using the Copy Assignment or Cut Assignment commands on the Edit menu in either Task Usage view or Resource Usage view results in a new task or resource depending on where the information is pasted.
