Article ID: 172723

Article Last Modified on 1/20/2007

APPLIES TO

This article was previously published under Q172723

SYMPTOMS

If you change the default printer while Microsoft Project 98 is running, the change does not take effect until you restart Microsoft Project. In other words, the printer that was set as the default printer before you set the current printer is still the default printer until you restart Microsoft Project. In contrast, if you change the default printer while Microsoft Project is not running, this printer will appears as the default printer when you start Microsoft Project.

If the default printer is changed while Microsoft Project is not running the new printer will be selected the next time Microsoft Project is started.

NOTE: when you select a new default printer in Microsoft Project, this will change that printer to be the Windows default printer.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you set the default printer using these steps:

  1. Start Microsoft Project.
  2. On the Windows Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Right-click the printer icon you want use and click Set As Default on the menu that appears.

WORKAROUND

To set a different default printer while Microsoft Project is running, use the following steps instead of setting the default printer in the Windows Control Panel:

  1. On the File menu, click Print.
  2. In the Name list, select the printer you want to use and then click Close.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.
