MSN Icon Remains on Desktop After MSN Is Removed

SYMPTOMS
After you remove MSN, The Microsoft Network, from your computer, the MSN icon may still remain on the desktop.
CAUSE
Some components of MSN Program Viewer may not have been properly removed.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, reinstall and then remove Program Viewer. To do so, follow these steps:
- Insert the MSN 2.0 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. If the Auto Insert Notification option is turned on, close the Welcome To MSN window that opens on the desktop.
- Double-click My Computer.
- Right-click the CD-ROM drive icon, and then click Explore.
- Double-click the Msnsetup folder.
- Double-click the Compnts folder.
- Double-click the Coreui.exe file.
- Double-click the Newcore.exe file.
- Double-click the Controls.exe file.
- If you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove programs.
- In the list of installed programs, click MSN Program Viewer Controls, and then click Add/Remove.
- In the list of installed programs, click MSN Program Viewer, and then click Add/Remove.
- If you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.
