Internet Mail or Internet News Starts Briefly and Then Quits

SYMPTOMS

When you start Internet Mail and News, the program may appear briefly and then quit.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you have reduced the size of the Internet Mail or Internet News window as small as possible and then quit the program while the window was in this state.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Taskbar.
  2. Click the Start Menu Programs tab, and then click Advanced.
  3. Locate the Internet Mail or Internet News program shortcut.
  4. Right-click the shortcut, click Properties, and then click the Shortcut tab.
  5. In the Run box, click Maximized, and then click OK.
  6. Start Internet Mail or Internet News.
  7. Click the Restore button (the middle button in the upper-right corner of the window), and then resize the window to make it larger.
  8. Quit Internet Mail or Internet News.
  9. Repeat steps 1-5. However, in the Run box, click Normal.
