SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel 97, if you click Remove Page Break on the Insert menu, the selected page break may not be removed from the worksheet.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when both of the following conditions are true:

  • The page break is at the top of the print area. For example, if the print area includes the range B5:F20, the page break is between rows 4 and 5. -and-

  • The selected cell is in both the row immediately below the page break, and inside the print area.

WORKAROUND

To remove such a page break from the worksheet, select a cell below the page break and outside of the print area, and then click Remove Page Break on the Insert menu. The page break should be removed from the worksheet.

For example, if your print area is defined from B5 to F20, and your page break is located between rows 4 and 5, click to select a cell in row 5 that is outside of the print area.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
