SYMPTOMS

When you run Microsoft Money, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

  • Part of the Money screen is missing or cut off, even when the window is maximized.

NOTE: This symptom is more noticeable when the screen resolution is set to 640 X 480 pixels; or when your screen resolution is set to 800 X 600 pixels, and your font size is set to Large Fonts.

  • In the Legend area on the Forecast screens or other chart screens, very thin "n" characters appear instead of the normal colored blocks.
  • The commands on the navigation bar overlap or appear unreadable, and odd characters appear next to the sidebars in the Planning Center Planners (Microsoft Money 2000 and Microsoft Money 2001), the Decision Center (Microsoft Money 99) or Money Insider (Microsoft Money 98).

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if any of the following fonts are missing or damaged:

  • Tahoma
  • Tahoma Bold
  • Times New Roman
  • Wingdings

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, remove and then reinstall the appropriate fonts.

If part of the Money screen is missing or cut off, strange or oversized characters appear on the command buttons on the right side of the screen, or the scroll bar is missing, then remove and then reinstall the Tahoma (Tahoma.ttf) and Tahoma Bold (Tahomabd.ttf) fonts.

If thin "n" characters appear instead of colored blocks in the legend areas of your chart screens, then remove and reinstall the Wingdings (Wingding.ttf) font.

If the commands on the navigation bar overlap or appear unreadable, or odd characters appear next to the sidebars in the Planning Center Planners (in Money 2000 and Money 2001), the Decision Center (in Money 99) or Money Insider (in Money 98), then remove and reinstall the Times New Roman (Times.ttf) font.

To remove and reinstall missing or damaged fonts:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Fonts.
  3. Click to select the Tahoma font.
  4. Press and hold down the CTRL key as you click to select each of the following fonts:
    • Tahoma Bold
    • Times New Roman
    • Wingdings

  5. On the File menu, click Delete.
  6. When you are prompted to confirm that you want to delete the selected fonts, click Yes or Yes To All.

NOTE: To remove a font without deleting it from the hard disk, drag the font from the Fonts folder into another folder. For more information about how to move files:
    1. Click Start, and then click Help.
    2. On the Index tab, double-click the Moving Using Drag And Drop topic.
  7. Insert the Money CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. Press and hold down the SHIFT key as you insert the CD-ROM to prevent Money from starting automatically.
  8. In the Fonts window, click Install New Font on the File menu.
  9. In the Drives box, click the CD-ROM drive.
  10. In the Folders box, use the appropriate method for your version of Money:
    • In Money 2000, double-click the PSS folder.
    • In Money 99 and Money 98, double-click the Money99 folder, or the Money98 folder, and then double-click the Mts folder.
  11. In the List of fonts box, click to select the Tahoma font, and then press and hold down the CTRL key as you click to select the following fonts:
    • Tahoma Bold
    • Times New Roman
    • Wingdings

  12. Make sure that the Copy fonts to Fonts folder check box is selected, and then click OK.
  13. Close Fonts, and then close Control Panel.
  14. Restart the computer.

MORE INFORMATION

The Times New Roman and Wingdings fonts are standard fonts installed with Microsoft Windows. Money Setup installs the Tahoma font when you install Money.

The Tahoma, Tahoma Bold, Times New Roman, and Wingdings fonts are included in the Money98\Mts folder on the Money 98 CD-ROM and in the Money99\Mts folder on the Money 99 CD-ROM.
