SYMPTOMS

Invoking the Visual Component Manager results in the error:

"asserts in Exutil Repository Items Method of ReposTypeLibs"

and returns Invalid Error Information.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This bug has been fixed in Visual Studio 97 Service Pack 2.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Add "VisualCompmgr.connect=0" to vbaddin.ini.
  2. Run Visual Basic.
  3. From the Add-in's menu, add "Visual Component Manager."

RESULT: You should get assert exutil(329), followed by "resource with identifier '10215' not found." It should then quit.
