Default Install Location Not Used for Internet Explorer

Article ID: 171785

Article Last Modified on 10/20/2000

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer Administration Kit 3.2a

This article was previously published under Q171785

SYMPTOMS

When you install a customized version of Internet Explorer using a corporate build from the IEAK, the installation directory that was specified in the wizard is not used. Instead, the directory that the installation program uses is the default for Internet Explorer:

Program Files\Microsoft Internet.

CAUSE

The installation program does not have the ability to create two or more subdirectories.

WORKAROUND

To work around the problem:

  • Make sure that the directory structure that will be used for the installation of Internet Explorer is only one subdirectory deep. If two or more directories need to be made, the installation program will use the default installation location for Internet Explorer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in IEAK version 3.2a. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
