The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Money 98
  • == Microsoft Money, version 5.0 for Windows 95 ==

SUMMARY

Do not install the Money trial version in the same folder as a previously installed version of Money. If you do this, you overwrite your previously installed version of Money and you cannot return to the earlier version. Additionally, it is important that you make a backup of your Money data file before you convert it to Money 98. After you convert your data file to Money 98, you cannot open it in an earlier version of Money.

After you install Money 98, you may find that you are not able to launch Money 97 from the shortcut and the Money 97 payment reminder no longer functions. This issue occurs even if you installed Money 98 into a different folder and later removed it.

When you try to start Money 97, you receive the error message:

Money could not update the Payment Reminder because the file fileaxs.dll is either missing or corrupted. If this error continues, try reinstalling Money.

If you reinstall Money 97, Money 98 will no longer start. You receive the message:

Error Starting Program A required .DLL file, MSCOFD.DLL, was not found.
