The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.0 for Windows NT 4.0

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Internet Explorer Platform Preview 2 by running the Active Setup program, you may receive the following error message:

The procedure entry point CloseINFEngine could not be located in the
   dynamic link library ADVPACK.dll

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you run the Ie4setupw.exe or Ie4setupb.exe file from Internet Explorer 4.0 Platform Preview 1 instead of the Ie4setup.exe file from Internet Explorer 4.0 Platform Preview 2.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, locate and run the Ie4setup.exe file for Internet Explorer 4.0 Platform Preview 2.

MORE INFORMATION

Platform Preview 1 includes Setup files called Ie4setupw.exe and Ie4setupb.exe. Platform Preview 2 includes a Setup file called Ie4setup.exe. If you download the Platform Preview 2 installation files to a folder that already contains the Platform Preview 1 installation files, the Ie4setupw.exe and Ie4setupb.exe files are not deleted.
