SYMPTOMS

When you start Internet Explorer, you may receive the following error message:

Due to network or related problems, Internet Explorer could not download your Auto-Proxy Script.

Do you wish to with continue with standard proxy settings?

If you click No, Internet Explorer starts with no proxy settings, and you may not be able to access external Web sites beyond the proxy server (a server on a local area network that lets you connect to the Internet without using a modem). If you click Yes, Internet Explorer attempts to use standard proxy settings already stored in the registry. Changes you make in the Options dialog box may not be retained, or some or all of the settings may be unavailable.

CAUSE

The Automatic Configuration option is enabled, but the specified automatic configuration Web address is invalid.

RESOLUTION

To disable or verify automatic configuration settings, use the following steps:

  1. In Internet Explorer, click Options on the View menu.
  2. Click the Advanced tab.
  3. Click Automatic Configuration.
  4. Clear the URL box, or verify that the Web address specified is valid. Note that this setting may be used by a system or network administrator to automatically configure your installation of Internet Explorer and may contain settings that should not be changed. If you are not sure, see your system or network administrator before changing this setting.

BR/> Additionally, the URL box can be disabled to prevent users from changing settings that have been preset or disabled for security or administrative purposes. If the URL box is unavailable, see your administrator.

  1. Click OK.
