INFO: Why Shadows Are Not Cast Through Volume Shaders

The information in this article applies to:

  • Softimage 3D for IRIX, version 3.7

SUMMARY

This article is provided to offer a solution for a common problem that occurs when attempting to cast shadows through volume shaders.

If shadows are not cast when you shine light through objects with volume shaders applied, then all the necessary mental ray command line options may not be on. The solution is to turn on the following mental ray command line options:

  • shadow_sort on
  • shadow_segments on
