PRB: Default Position of Tool Editors Make Tools Inaccessible

Last reviewed: July 11, 1997
Article ID: Q171210

The information in this article applies to:

  • Softimage Eddie for IRIX, version 3.5

SYMPTOMS

You are unable to access the Window Management menu and icons, or view the Tool Editors Helpline on the Title bar.

CAUSE

With some machine settings, the default position of the Tool Editors in Eddie v3.5 are positioned beyond your monitor's Y resolution. As a result, you are unable to access the Window Management menu and icons or view the Tool Editors Helpline on the Title bar.

RESOLUTION

You must adjust the size and position of the Tool Editor. To do this, complete the following steps:

  1. With root permission, jot or vi the $EDDIE3DIR/res/Eddie* file.
  2. You must edit the settings on line 56 that appear with the following values:

    *ApplicationShell.geometry: 1146x924+134+0

NOTE: If you do not have root permission, you can override the resource values defined in $EDDIE3DIR/res/Eddie* by copy/pasting line 56 into ~/.Xdefaults. From the .Xdefaults file, you can edit the values.

Depending on your machine settings, it may be necessary to experiment with the values before the Tools Editors are properly positioned. From left to right, the four values on line 56 (1146 x 924 + 134 + 0) define the following:

  • first value defines the X resolution.
  • second value defines the Y resolution.
  • third value defines the vertical borders. (An addition sign defines the distance from the left edge of the screen and a subtraction defines the distance from the right edge of the screen.)
  • fourth value defines the horizontal borders. (An addition sign defines the distance from the top edge of the screen and a subtraction sign defines the distance from the bottom edge of the screen.)
