Modem Connection Remains After You Disconnect from MSN

The information in this article applies to:

  • The Microsoft Network versions 1.2, 1.3, 2.0

SYMPTOMS

When you try to disconnect from MSN, The Microsoft Network, the modem may remain connected to MSN.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you connect to MSN using an Internet service provider other than MSN, and you do not have the correct Dial-Up Networking options enabled.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use either of the following methods:

Method 1

NOTE: This method works only if you are using Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2 or the Microsoft ISDN 1.1 Accelerator Pack.

  1. Double-click My Computer, and then double-click Dial-Up Networking.
  2. Click Connections, and then click Settings.
  3. Click the following check boxes to select them, and then click OK:

        - Show An Icon On Taskbar After Connected
        - Prompt For Information Before Dialing
        - Show A Confirmation Dialog After Connected

Method 2

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Dial-Up Networking.
  2. Double-click the connectoid you use to connect to MSN.
  3. If the connection is open, click Disconnect.
