Last reviewed: July 2, 1997
Article ID: Q170898

The information in this article applies to:

  • Softimage 3D for IRIX, version 3.7

SYMPTOMS

You cannot start SOFTIMAGE 3D. Initially, lmsoft starts up but dies immediately. lmgrd attempts to restart lmsoft but it is unsuccessful. Instead, the following error message is repeated several times in the FLEXlm log file:

(lmgrd) Started SOFTIMAGE (internet tcp_port 1368 pid 901)
(SOFTIMAGE) Server started on daffy for: SI_TOOLS
   (SOFTIMAGE) 3D 3D_RENDER 3D_ADVANCED
   (SOFTIMAGE) RAY_REBELS 3D_LIVE 3D_SHARED
   (SOFTIMAGE) MENTAL_RAY PARTICLE
(lmgrd) Vendor daemon died with status 1
(lmgrd) Since this is an unknown status, lmgrd will
(lmgrd) attempt to re-start the vendor daemon.
(lmgrd) REStarted SOFTIMAGE (internet tcp_port 1372 pid 902)

CAUSE

On IRIX 5.3, FLEXlm 5.0 does not expire the license if the machine has files with the date set in the future.

RESOLUTION

  1. Run the following command to reveal any files on the system with dates in the future:

    touch /tmp/today find / -local -newer /tmp/today -exec ls -ld {} \;

The contents of the /dev, /proc, and /tmp directories are not applicable so ignore them.

  1. You can then run the touch command on these files to reset their date.
