SYMPTOMS
When you try to install Internet Explorer, the installation process may seem to stop responding (hang), and a Version Conflict dialog box button may be visible on the taskbar.
CAUSE
During the installation of Internet Explorer, a Version Conflict dialog box may be generated. This dialog box may be visible only as a button on the taskbar. Until you respond to the Version Conflict dialog box, the installation process seems to hang.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
- Click the Version Conflict dialog box button on the taskbar.
- Respond to the Version Conflict dialog box by choosing to keep or discard the file in question.

Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
