SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel 97, if you use the cropping controls in the Picture tab of the Format dialog box, one or more ActiveX controls in the active worksheet may be cropped.

CAUSE

This problem will occur if you have a combination of pictures and ActiveX controls selected when you crop the selected objects.

RESOLUTION

To prevent this problem from occurring, make sure that no ActiveX controls are selected when you use the cropping controls to trim pictures in your worksheet.

If the problem has already occurred, you can uncrop the controls. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Select the control(s) that need to be uncropped. Then, hold down the SHIFT key and select the picture that you previously cropped.
  2. On the Format menu, click Object. Then, click the Picture tab.
  3. Click the Reset button. Then, click OK.

Your controls are restored to their original, uncropped size.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

In Microsoft Excel 97, when you click Object on the Format menu, the Format dialog box contains different tabs, depending on which type of object is currently selected. For example:

   Object Type Displayed Tabs
   --------------------------------------------------------------
   ActiveX Control Size, Protection, Properties
Picture Colors And Lines, Size, Picture, Protection,
                     Properties

If you have a picture and an ActiveX control selected at the same time, the Format dialog box will contain all of the listed tabs, even though two of the tabs (Colors And Lines and Picture) do not apply to ActiveX controls. If you use the cropping controls in the Picture tab, the selected ActiveX controls will be trimmed when you click OK.
