SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel 97, when you copy and paste an embedded chart, the pasted chart may be larger or smaller in size than the original copied chart.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the Zoom tool on the Standard toolbar is set to a value other than 100 percent (100%) when you paste the copied chart.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, set the Zoom tool on the Standard toolbar to 100 percent before you paste the copied chart. Note that you can also change the Zoom setting for a worksheet by clicking Zoom on the View menu. However, using this method clears the clipboard, and you must recopy the chart before you paste it.

If the problem already occurred, manually resize the pasted chart. Or, delete the pasted chart, recopy the original chart, click 100% in the Zoom list on the Standard toolbar, and then paste the chart.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

In Microsoft Excel 97, when you copy and paste an embedded chart, the Zoom setting for the worksheet is applied to the pasted chart. As a result, the size of the chart changes if the Zoom setting for the worksheet is not 100 percent.

For example, if you paste a chart into a worksheet with a Zoom setting of 50 percent, the size of the chart is reduced to 50 percent before it is pasted into the worksheet. If you paste a chart into a worksheet with a Zoom setting of 200 percent, the size of the chart is increased to 200 percent before it is pasted.

Note that the value of the Zoom setting when you copy the chart does not matter; it matters only when you paste the chart.
