SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Project 98, if you sort tasks by the ID field in descending order while the Permanently Renumber Tasks option is selected, and you switch to another view and then back to the current view, the tasks will be listed in their original order, but the IDs will be listed in descending order.
CAUSE
When you switch from one view to another, and back again, Microsoft Project reorders the tasks in the order based on the settings in the Sort dialog box--in this case, by ID field in descending order. Although your information is not modified, the tasks are again listed in their original order and the IDs are listed in descending order.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem sort the tasks in ascending order, using the following steps:
- On the Project menu, point to Sort, and then click Sort By.
- In the Sort By list, select ID.
- Click Ascending, and then click OK.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.
