SYMPTOMS

When you assign actual hours of work to an assignment in Microsoft Project, the Percent Complete for the current time period is not updated correctly.

CAUSE

Microsoft Project bases the Percent Complete on the minimum of the assignment stop dates. Therefore, it appears to calculate the Percent Complete incorrectly until all assignments in the same time period have been assigned an Actual Work value.

NOTE: When you enter Actual Work values for an assignment on the first day of a task, the Percent Complete column will calculate correctly and you will not have to enter Actual Work for all assignments in that time period.

WORKAROUND

To correctly show the Percent Complete for a given day of a task, make sure that you enter Actual Work values for all assignments on that day.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
