SYMPTOMS

When you use the Function Wizard to enter a formula containing a user-defined function in a cell, the formula may be calculated more than once.

CAUSE

A user-defined function is calculated multiple times in Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows if the following conditions are true:

  • The user-defined function is created in Visual Basic for Applications. -and-

  • The user-defined function is inserted into the spreadsheet with the Function Wizard.

Note that this behavior does not occur if the user-defined function is entered directly in a cell in a worksheet.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do not use the Function Wizard to insert the custom function.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
