APPLIES TO

This article was previously published under Q170237

SYMPTOMS

When you uninstall Microsoft FrontPage 97 for Windows, some files remain on your hard disk. These files include the *.ini and *.dll files, which are listed in the "More Information" section of this article.

CAUSE

The Fp20*.dll files are not removed from your hard disk if their ref count is greater than 1. The ref count will be greater then 1 if you install a later version of FrontPage, excluding the upgrade version, without first removing an earlier version of FrontPage.

RESOLUTION

If you installed a later version of FrontPage without first removing an earlier version of FrontPage from your computer, manually delete the files listed in the "More Information" section of this article. If you have not yet installed a later version of FrontPage, uninstall the earlier version of FrontPage and then install the later version.
