APPLIES TO

This article was previously published under Q169982

SYMPTOMS

When you click "Check for New Mail," and while the Connecting to Server dialog box is open, Microsoft Outlook 97 appears to hang if you do either of the following:

  • Click a menu item outside the dialog box.
  • Click Cancel in the dialog box that appears if you have incorrect server settings.

If you press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to display the Close Program list, it does not indicate that Outlook is not responding.

RESOLUTION

To end the current process and return control to Outlook do the following:

  1. Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE.
  2. Select the e-mail service in the Close Programs list, then click End Task.

NOTE: Do not select Microsoft Outlook. If you do, it will quit.
