C_ Folder May Be Listed on Programs Menu

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.0 for Windows 95

SYMPTOMS

When you click the Start button and then point to Programs, you may see a "C_" folder listed on the Programs menu.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you install a program that uses the Grpconv.exe tool to convert shortcuts.

RESOLUTION

To remove the C_ folder from the Programs menu, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Taskbar.
  2. Click the Start Menu Programs tab, and then click Remove.
  3. Locate the C_ folder, click it, and then click Remove.
  4. Click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Internet Explorer 4.0 Platform Preview 1. This problem does not occur with Internet Explorer 4.0 Platform Preview 2. To obtain Internet Explorer 4.0 Platform Preview 2, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
