This article was previously published under Q169518

SYMPTOMS

When you try to access Exchange Server 5.0 with Internet Information Server (IIS) 3.0 and Active Server pages, you may receive the following error message:

Unable to get views available to render.

CAUSE

This problem is due to a lack of sufficient rights on the <Root>\Exhcsrvr\Res directory structure on Exchange Server:

RESOLUTION

  1. Ensure that the <Root>\Exhcsrvr\Res directory has a minimum of READ access. Rights need to cascade down to subdirectories below RES.
  2. Ensure that the <Root>\Exchsrvr\Webdata directories have a minimum of READ access. Rights need to cascade down to subdirectories below Webdata.

The DLLs in this subdirectory are used in creating the mailbox view in the web client, and need to have at least the READ Permission granted to the subdirectory.

MORE INFORMATION

This error can be diagnosed by enabling Auditing functionality of the Windows NT Server that is running the Exchange server, IIS and Active Server Pages. Once this is turned on the errors accessing this directory will be logged in the Event log.
