Clicking Link Within a Frame Opens a Full Window

Article ID: 169449

Article Last Modified on 11/1/2006

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.02

This article was previously published under Q169449

SYMPTOMS

When you click a link within a frame in Internet Explorer, the linked page may open within a full window instead of another frame on the same page.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the link is inadvertently dragged during the click action and a shortcut to that link is created. When the mouse button is released, the page to which the link points is opened within a full window.

MORE INFORMATION

Internet Explorer supports dragging a shortcut to an Internet page. Moving the mouse a short distance while you click a link within a frame causes Internet Explorer to interpret this action as a dragging operation, and not a click. This results in a shortcut to the link being created. When the mouse button is released, the page is opened within a full window.
