This article describes how to create a shortcut to a newsgroup. You can then use the shortcut to access the newsgroup without starting Internet News or Outlook Express first.

To create a shortcut to a newsgroup, follow these steps:

  1. Right-click an empty area of the desktop, point to New on the menu that appears, and then click Shortcut.
  2. In the Command Line box, type the following line:

    news://<news server>/newsgroup

    where <news server> is the name of the news server provided by your Internet service provider (ISP) or Intranet administrator, and <news group> is the name of the news group. For example:

  3. Click Next.
  4. Type a descriptive name for the shortcut.
  5. Click Finish.
