CRS: ACLs Not Replicated If Membership Broker Service Disabled

Article ID: 169314

Article Last Modified on 10/28/2003

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Commercial Internet System 1.0 Service Pack 2
  • Microsoft Content Replication System

This article was previously published under Q169314

SYMPTOMS

When you are replicating access control lists (ACLs) with the Membership Broker service (MBS) disabled, files are replicated, but the ACLs on the directory and files at the end point are reset to a default of Everyone, Full Control. No error message appears to indicate failure in ACL replication.

CAUSE

The Content Replication System (CRS) does not abort when it cannot initialize the MBS source or destination.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, enable the Membership Broker service and try to perform the CRS replication again.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Commercial Internet System version 1.0 with or without Service Pack 1. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
