The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.0 for Windows 95
- Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.0 for Windows NT 4.0
SYMPTOMS
When you use the Customize This Folder command on the View menu, any existing Folder.htm file is overwritten and the Desktop.ini file is modified.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs when the Customize Folder Wizard creates a Desktop.ini and Folder.htm file for the selected folder. If a Folder.htm file already exists in the folder you are customizing, it is overwritten. If a Desktop.ini file already exists in the folder you are customizing, the default folder customization settings are appended to the existing file.
RESOLUTION
To prevent the Wizard from overwriting or modifying existing files, you may want to rename any Desktop.ini or Folder.htm files in the folder you are customizing before you use the Customize This Folder option.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Internet Explorer 4.0 Platform Preview 1. This problem does not occur with Internet Explorer 4.0 Platform Preview 2. To obtain Internet Explorer 4.0 Platform Preview 2, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
