SYMPTOMS
In an outline, if you add a new task while the subtasks of a summary task are visible, the new task is added to the wrong summary task.
NOTE: To view your project as an outline, click Gantt Chart on the View menu.
CAUSE
When you add a new task, the new task is inserted at the same outline level as the previous task or subtask. Therefore, if the subtasks of a summary task are visible, the new task is inserted as a subtask of that summary task. If the subtasks are not visible--for example, because you collapsed the summary task,--the new task is inserted as a subtask of the primary summary task.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, collapse the summary task so that the subtasks are hidden. To do this, click the minus sign to the left of the summary task, and then add the new task. The new task will be added to the primary summary task.
