Systems Management Server 1.2 Service Pack 2 on Windows NT Server 3.51 Discards SNMP Traps from Windows NT 4.0 Clients

Article ID: 169124

Article Last Modified on 10/27/2006

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Systems Management Server 1.2 Service Pack 2

This article was previously published under Q169124

SYMPTOMS

A primary site server running Systems Management Server 1.2 Service Pack 2 installed on Windows NT Server 3.51 discards SNMP traps coming from client computers running Windows NT 4.0. Even when the trap filter is set to write the traps to the Systems Management Server database, traps coming from Windows NT 4.0 clients get discarded. However, traps coming from client computers running Windows NT 3.51 are written to the database.

Note that the same configuration running on Windows NT Server 4.0 accepts and writes to the database traps coming from client computers running either Windows NT 3.51 or Windows NT 4.0.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, upgrade the Systems Management Server 1.2 Service Pack 2 primary site server to Windows NT Server 4.0.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Systems Management Server version 1.2 Service Pack 2. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
