CRS: Not Replicating ACL When Broker Is Disabled

SYMPTOMS

When you replicate access control lists (ACLs) with the Membership (MBS) Broker service disabled, files are replicated, but the ACL on the directory and files at the end point are reset to a default of Everyone, Full Control. There is no error indication of failure in ACL replication.

CAUSE

The Microsoft Content Replication System (CRS) does not abort when it cannot initialize the MBS source or destination.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, enable the Membership Broker service and try to do the CRS replication again.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Commercial Internet System, version 1.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
