SYMPTOMS
When you roll the wheel on a Microsoft IntelliMouse while using Microsoft Excel 97, you may receive the following error message:
If you click Details, you receive an error message similar to the following:
CAUSE
This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
- The worksheet you are currently editing (Sheet1, for example) contains a split or frozen panes. -and-
- While you are editing a formula in Sheet1, you activate another workbook or another worksheet, and then scroll up or down by rolling the wheel on the Microsoft IntelliMouse.
RESOLUTION
To prevent this problem from occurring, do not roll the wheel on the Microsoft IntelliMouse when you are editing a formula in a workbook whose window contains a split or frozen panes.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem no longer occurs in Microsoft Excel 2000.
