  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.0 for Windows NT 4.0

SYMPTOMS

When you copy a Microsoft Equation Editor object from Microsoft Word 6.0 or Microsoft Excel 5.0 to the Active Desktop, you may receive one of the following error messages:

Windows 95

   Eqnedit

An error has occurred in your program. To keep working anyway, click
Ignore and save your work in a new file. To quit this program, click
Close. You will loose information you entered since your last Save.

When you click either Close or Ignore, the following error message is displayed:

   Eqnedit

The program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
If the Problem persists, contact the program vendor.

When you click Details, the following details are displayed:

EQNEDIT caused an general protection fault in module EQNEDIT.EXE at
   <address>.

When you close the dialog box, the following error message is displayed:

Unable to create and store scrap/shortcut object
   The RPC server is unavailable.

Windows NT

   Eqnedit

An error has occurred in your Application.
If you choose to Ignore, you should save your work in a new file.
If you chose Close, your Application will terminate.

When you click either Close or Ignore, the following error message is displayed:

   Application error
Eqnedit caused a General protection fault in module EQNEDIT.EXE at
   <address>.
   Choose Close. Eqnedit will close.

When you close the dialog box, Eqnedit closes, and then the Microsoft Office program from which you attempted to copy the Equation Editor object stops responding (hangs).

CAUSE

You are using a version of Equation Editor 1.0 or 2.0 that is included with Microsoft Office version 4.3 or earlier products.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods:

Method 1

Use the standard Windows 95 desktop. To change from Active Desktop to the standard desktop, use the following steps:

  1. In Control Panel, double-click Display.
  2. On the Desktop tab, click Use The Standard Windows Desktop.
  3. Click OK.

Method 2

Upgrade your version of Microsoft Office or the individual Microsoft Office program you are using. These error messages do not occur with the version of Equation Editor 2.1 or later that is included in Microsoft Office version 7.0 for Windows 95 and Microsoft Office 97 products.
